Bellafill – An FDA Approved Dermal Filler

Bellafill is a long-lasting dermal filler, and FDA approved. It consists of collagen and small polymethacrylate beads (PMMA) a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. The FDA initially approved use in nasolabial folds for Bellafill, formerly known as Artefill for the treatment in 2006. The FDA has approved this treatment for some moderate to serious type acne scars in 2014. It also has off-label uses like many other fillers and drugs. It is used for wrinkles and fine lines and for the non-surgical procedure for the chin, cheeks, and nose.

This is though safe, but before opting for it, you may need to undergo a skin test prior. This is not for someone under 21, people with allergies, allergic to bovine collagen, or having a certain medical condition causing scarring. To get this dermal filler treatment in OKC, you have to maintain these criteria.

Bellafill, the first injectable claiming to last for five years, has been approved by the FDA. Going in every six to nine months with far more popular hyaluronic acid fillers, it can be tiresome and expensive. However, Bellafill is not reversible as opposed to those short-term fillers. The injectable has already been approved for filling smile lines and acne scars and can be used off-label in that field, even if not considered as a volumizer for cheeks. The lips are not supposed to be treated.

Bellafill Process

Your doctor would require medical history before your Bellafill procedure, which includes information about your allergies and other medical conditions. Also, you will need a skin test to check for a bovine collagen allergy. Your doctor will inject a little amount of purified collagen gel into your underarm to see if the reaction occurs. Four weeks before bellafill, the FDA recommends that this test is done.

Your doctor can mark the to-be-treated areas when you are ready for your Bellafill procedure. The filler is then injected into the skin, and immediate results can be observed. A small quantity of lidocaine is included in each syringe to numb the area after injection. If you are concerned about pain, you might also use a numbing cream before your injection.

Depending on which area you have treated, the time varies. It can be between 15 and 60 minutes. During one appointment, you can treat several areas. You have to come for follow-up treatment after six weeks for the best results.

What Can You Expect?

Most people are able immediately after receiving Bellafill to return to normal activities. The results for rejuvenation and acne scar treatment are immediate and stay for up to 5 years. To help swelling or discomfort, apply an ice pack in the area.
