How does the HCG Diet work?
HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and is a hormone present in both males and females. The placenta produces it during the early stages of pregnancy. During pregnancy, the substance almost completely controls the woman’s metabolic functions. In non-pregnant persons, research suggests HCG similarly increases the metabolism and promotes lipolytic (fat burning) activity.
The use of HCG for weight loss was pioneered over 50 years ago by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons while studying impoverished pregnant women in India during the 1950’s. He noted these women eating small amounts of calories giving birth to normal height and weight babies that should have been malnourished. This led to the discovery of the production of HCG in pregnant women.
When HCG is absorbed into your body, it causes your body to attack your stored fat because it triggers the body to break down adipose tissue (abnormal fat cells). This process causes your body to release between 1500 and 4000 calories of reserve calories into your system every day so you keep your energy levels, but loose unwanted fat stores. Longevity combines HCG with a very low calorie diet (VLCD) to produce both weight and fat loss. If you use HCG and keep normal diet you will gain wait, due to the hormonal release of calories.

Is HCG Safe? How effective is it?

What to expect?
Dieters can expect a safe and quick weight loss program. With a change in your metabolism, HCG triggers your body mobilize fat out of the fat storage locations. Weight loss comes from adipose tissue, not muscle, and HCG does not strip the body of vitamins and minerals. Because the dieter’s relationship with food is changed, there are no long-term diet restrictions, and dieters can expect a maintained weight loss, as well as a loss of the cravings for the food that caused the weight increase.

What if I just did the diet without the HCG injections?
Many double-blind studies have been conducted that give the answer to this question.
If you just do the diet without the HCG injections, you will lose weight. However, during the diet you will be losing muscle and structural fat, not any of the abnormal fat deposits in the problem areas. Your body will not be reshaped and re-sculpted. When you finish the diet, your metabolism will have slowed and your hunger higher than before. You will not have achieved the results you want.
Is it true that 500 calories a day is too low to be safe?
No. Research now confirms that eating very low calorie diets (VLCD) actually increases overall health, has anti-aging effects, and increases lifespan. This was reported recently in The New York Times. However, when you are doing the VLCD combined with HCG injections, Dr. Simeons reports that your body is being flooded with over 2,000 calories of nutrition from the release of the abnormal fat reserves. This is one of the reasons that during the HCG diet program you notice a decrease in hunger and will generally have an increase in energy.
During the diet am I allowed to take supplements and prescription medication?
Yes, it is imperative that you continue to take any necessary prescription medication that your primary doctor has prescribed. If at all possible, you need to ask your pharmacist if your medication has any filler of sugar or starches (most medications do). If so, ask your pharmacist if they can make your medication in a pure form without additive sugar or starches.
You will not require any supplementation during phase one and two of the diet, however, once you are in the maintenance phase of the diet we will suggest adding in an all-natural supplement of omega-3, which is high potency, ultra refined, and enteric coated.
Will I be hungry during this protocol?
During Phase 2 you may have slight hunger during the first week. If you are following the instructions to load up on calories the first two days, this will not be as noticeable. Each person is different, but for the most part the hunger is slight.
What if I cheat on the diet during the diet?
If you do cheat for a meal or for one or two days in a row, all it means is that the weight loss process will stop for a few days or a temporary slight increase in weight may occur. Immediately start the diet again at the next meal and carry on. If you cheat on a meal every other day, you will see no results and should reconsider your dedication to the program.
Can I stay on Phase 2 longer than six weeks?
Dr. Simeons found that the body has a tendency to create immunity to HCG. Therefore, staying on the diet for longer than a total of 45 injections is not advised. You must take at least a 6-week break before you start the injections and protocol of the diet again. This is important, as once your body starts to develop immunity to HCG, you will no longer be burning abnormal fat reserves and the body will begin to burn structural fat and muscle. You will know when the immunity sets in as you will be unnaturally hungry again and the 500 calorie diet will not be sustainable.
