Have a Quick Glance at Kybella Facts

Kybella is an injectable nonsurgical procedure used to treat the fat under the chin. To target the fat cells in this region, the process uses a series of deoxycholic acid injections. There are no incisions necessary, and in most cases, the downtime is minimal.

An adult 18 years or older with mild to extreme fat under the chin is the best choice for this cosmetic treatment. If you have had or are about to have facial surgery, if you have difficulty swallowing, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an illness or medical condition at or near the proposed injection site, you may not be a good candidate.

Kybella Preparation

It's important to prepare with your healthcare provider for the Kybella treatment to make sure you are the right fit for the procedure. As well as any cosmetic procedures you have performed on your face, neck, or chin, examine your medical background. Inform your healthcare provider of any issues with swallowing or bleeding. Studies are still underway on the impact of Kybella on a fetus or infant, so let your healthcare provider know whether you are breastfeeding or pregnant, or intend to become pregnant in the near future.

The Facts

  • Kybella is an injectable non-surgical procedure used to treat the fat under the jaw.

  • Deoxycholic acid, which is one of the secondary bile acids, is the common name.

  • Chenodeoxycholic acid, the predominant bile acid, is metabolised into deoxycholic acid by intestinal bacteria.

  • Deoxycholic acid is used in our body to break own the fats for absorption into the intestine.

It was approved by the FDA in the United States on 29 April 2015 to minimize moderate-to-severe fat under the chin. It has been a very safe therapy because it is part of our body's natural chemicals.

82.4% of individuals showed considerable progress in clinical trials and were pleased with their appearance.

How Does It Work?

A bile acid, naturally formed by your body to help absorb fat, is deoxycholic acid. A synthetic version of this is used as an injection for Kybella injections. The acid kills fat cells under the chin region until injected, so it can no longer store fat. Make sure your Kybella injections are performed by a qualified healthcare professional, as deoxycholic acid can also destroy other cells in the process.

Your healthcare provider will mark the injection sites with a marker before the operation and may prescribe a topical numbing agent or ice pack to alleviate any irritation or pain. Usually, injections of 20 to 30 and up to 50 are used under the jaw. The acid then acts to destroy fat cells gradually, which the body metabolises during the following weeks.

For each person, the number of treatment sessions required varies. In order to obtain optimal results, multiple treatments may be required. You will undergo up to six treatments with Kybella, with a minimum of one month between each session.
