Kybella is an injectable nonsurgical procedure used to treat the fat under the chin. To target the fat cells in this region, the process uses a series of deoxycholic acid injections. There are no incisions necessary, and in most cases, the downtime is minimal.
An adult 18 years or older with mild to extreme fat under the chin is the best choice for this cosmetic treatment. How Does It Work?
A bile acid, naturally formed by your body to help absorb fat, is deoxycholic acid. A synthetic version of this is used as an injection for Kybella injections. The acid kills fat cells under the chin region until injected, so it can no longer store fat. Make sure your Kybella injections are performed by a qualified healthcare professional, as deoxycholic acid can also destroy other cells in the process.
Your healthcare provider will mark the injection sites with a marker before the operation and may prescribe a topical numbing agent or ice pack to alleviate any irritation or pain. Usually, injections of 20 to 30 and up to 50 are used under the jaw. The acid then acts to destroy fat cells gradually, which the body metabolises during the following weeks.
For each person, the number of treatment sessions required varies. In order to obtain optimal results, multiple treatments may be required. You will undergo up to six treatments with Kybella, with a minimum of one month between each session.
