Tattoo Removal Benefits + How It Works
PicoWay tattoo removal offers a gentle and effective solution to erase unwanted tattoos with minimal downtime.
Using advanced laser technology, it delivers ultra-fast energy pulses to break down tattoo ink into tiny particles that your body can naturally clear away over time.
The treatment is safe for most skin types, works on a variety of ink colors, and leaves your skin feeling smooth and refreshed.
What Laser Tattoo Removal Machine Do We Use?
At Longevity Medical Spa in Oklahoma City, we use the PicoWay Tattoo Removal Laser by Syneron Candela—one of the most advanced systems available.
What sets us apart? We have the specialized handpieces needed to fade even the toughest ink colors, including stubborn greens and blues that many other lasers struggle with.
Whether you're looking to completely remove a tattoo or lighten it for a cover-up, our technology gives you the best possible results.
What to Know Before Your Tattoo Removal Treatment
Before You Arrive for Tattoo Removal
1. Avoid sun exposure on the tattooed area for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. Tanned or sunburned skin can't be safely treated, so protect the area with clothing or SPF 30+ sunscreen.
2. Skip the self-tanner and don't apply any lotions, creams, or makeup to the treatment area on the day of your appointment. Clean, dry skin works best.
3. Stay hydrated in the days leading up to your session. Well-hydrated skin responds better to treatment and heals more efficiently.
Day of Your Appointment
1. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your tattoo. If your tattoo is in a sensitive area, we can provide privacy draping.
2. Plan for some discomfort. Most people describe the sensation as similar to getting the tattoo in the first place—like a rubber band snapping against your skin. We offer options to help reduce pain to keep you comfortable.
3. Allow time for your visit. While the laser treatment itself only takes a few minutes, plan for about 30-45 minutes total for your appointment, including consultation and aftercare instructions.
What's Good to Know
You'll need multiple sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart for best results. The number of treatments depends on your tattoo's size, colors, and age—we'll give you a personalized estimate during your consultation.

During Tattoo Removal Treatment
What to Expect During Your PicoWay Tattoo Removal Appointment
When You Arrive
1. We'll start by taking photos of your tattoo to track your progress throughout your treatment journey.
2. Then, we'll clean the treatment area and discuss any questions or concerns you might have.
3. Comfort Options
Numbing is available to keep you comfortable during the procedure. We can apply a topical numbing cream about 30 minutes before treatment, or use a cooling device during the session to minimize discomfort. We also offer ProNox (just like at the Dentist). Just let us know what you prefer!
The Treatment Process
The laser itself works quickly—most sessions take just a few minutes, depending on your tattoo's size.
You'll hear a snapping sound as the laser pulses, and you may feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin.
You'll probably see immediate changes. Right after treatment, the tattooed area may turn white or "frost" for a few minutes—this is completely normal and shows the laser is working. The area may also look red or feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn.
We work systematically across your tattoo, ensuring every part receives the right amount of laser energy. Our staff will check in with you throughout to make sure you're doing okay.
Wrapping Up
Once we're finished, we'll apply a soothing ointment and bandage to protect the area. Before you leave, we'll give you detailed aftercare instructions and schedule your next session, typically 6-8 weeks out.
The whole appointment usually takes 30-45 minutes from start to finish.
You're free to drive yourself home and return to most normal activities right away!
After Your Tattoo Removal Treatment
What to Expect After Your PicoWay Tattoo Removal Appointment
Immediately After Treatment
Your skin will react—and that's normal. The treated area may look red, feel swollen, or appear slightly raised for a few hours to a few days. Some people also notice blistering, scabbing, or bruising—all of these are normal healing responses.
Keep it bandaged for the first 24 hours to protect the area. After that, you can leave it open to air, which actually helps with healing.
Caring for Your Skin
Keep it clean and simple. Gently wash the area with mild soap and water, then pat it dry. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment (like Aquaphor or what we recommend) and cover with a clean bandage if needed.
Don't pick or scratch your skin after tattoo removal! If blisters or scabs form, let them heal naturally. Picking can lead to scarring or infection.
Avoid sun exposure on the treated area for at least 2 weeks. If you must be in the sun, cover it with clothing or use SPF 30+ sunscreen once the skin has healed.
Skip the gym temporarily.
Hold off on strenuous exercise, hot tubs, swimming pools, and saunas for 48 hours to let your skin recover.
What You'll Notice
Your tattoo will fade gradually over the next 6-8 weeks as your body breaks down and removes the ink particles. This is when the real magic happens—between sessions, not during them!
Some discomfort is expected. The area may feel tender or itchy as it heals. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can help with any discomfort.
When to Call Us
Reach out if you notice signs of infection (increasing pain, pus, red streaks, or fever) or if you have any concerns about how you're healing. We're always here to help!
Looking Ahead
Your next session will be scheduled 6-8 weeks out to give your skin time to heal and your body time to clear away the fragmented ink. Each treatment gets you closer to your goal!
